Literacy Training Event

About these workshops and trainings: they are all…

  • interactive. You will learn with others, network with people across the province, and share your ideas. Everyone is welcome.
  • online. Join from your home or office. If you want help learning how you can connect to the training, contact us.
  • free for you! You can register for as many as you like – one, two, or all of them – all for free (in Saskatchewan – contact us if you’re not from our province)!

Workshop: Introduction to Clear Language and Inclusive Design

When is this workshop? Monday, November 25, 2024, from 12:00pm to 2:00pm (UTC-6)

What will I learn? In this workshop, you will learn more about clear language principles, including how and why to use clear language and design. We will explore writing guidelines, basic design principles, and you will have a chance to practice!

Who is this workshop for? This workshop is for anyone who wants to write more clearly or who wants to design posters and forms (and more!) that are more accessible.

Workshop format: This workshop is 2 hours long; online on Zoom.

Certificate: We will send you a digital certificate for completing this workshop.

Information session: Learn About: Storysacks

When is this session? Tuesday, December 3, 2024, from 12:00pm to 12:45pm (UTC-6)

What will I learn? In this session, you will learn what Storysacks are and how they can help you engage families and programs in your community through a bag with books, toys, and activities to share a story. You will also learn from other community groups and their experiences with Storysacks.

Who is this session for? This session is for anyone who wants to learn more about Storysacks and how to offer one in their community.

Training: Introduction to Family Literacy

When is this training? Wednesday, December 4, 2024, from 9:00am to 4:00pm (UTC-6)

What will I learn? In this training, you will learn about the core concepts and guiding principles of family literacy. You will gain knowledge and strategies to guide you in facilitating successful family literacy programs. We will send you materials to review and activities to help you prepare for the training.

Who is this training for? This training is for people who run, or want to run, family literacy programs, and for people who work or volunteer with families and want to learn how family literacy supports their work.

Training format: This training is 6 hours long (plus breaks); online on Zoom.

Certificate: We will send you a digital certificate for completing this training.

Training: Rhymes, Songs, and Stories Facilitator Training

When is this training? Thursday, December 5, 2024, from 9:00am to 4:00pm (UTC-6)

What will I learn? In this training, you will explore how rhymes, songs, and stories help families with young children learn and grow together. Through this training, you will gain knowledge and practice facilitation skills. You will have the tools to plan and offer a Rhymes, Songs, and Stories program in your community.

Who is this training for? This training is for people who work or volunteer with young children (around 2 to 4 years old) and their families, and who want to facilitate the Rhymes, Songs, and Stories program in their community.

Training format: This training is 6 hours long (plus breaks); online on Zoom.

Certificate: We will send you a digital certificate for completing this training.

What will I learn? In this session, you will learn about StoryWalks®, including how to plan and offer one in your community. You will explore different ways to display StoryWalks® and ideas to engage families. You will also learn from other community groups as they share their experiences with StoryWalks®.

Who is this session for? This information session is for anyone who wants to learn more about StoryWalks® and how to offer one in their community. If you are new to StoryWalks® or if you have offered many, you are welcome!

Session format: This information session is 45 minutes long; online on Zoom.

Training: Come Read with Me (Facilitator Training)

When is this training? Wednesday and Thursday, December 11 and 12, 2024 from 9:00am to 4:00pm (UTC-6) on both days

What will I learn? In this training, you will learn about and practice how to use children’s books as a way to share topics about childhood development and family learning with the families in your Come Read with Me program. You will plan and facilitate program practice sessions as part of this training.

Who is this training for? This training is for anyone who works or volunteers with families with young children (around 4 to 6 years old), and who want to run a Come Read with Me program in their community.

Training format: This training is 12 hours long (6 hours each day for two days); online on Zoom.

Certificate: We will send you a digital certificate for completing this training.

What will I learn? In this session, we will share information, resources, and more for Family Literacy Day 2025: Learn to Be Green, Together. You will also learn from other community groups as they (and you!) share ideas for celebrating Family Literacy Day in Saskatchewan.

Who is this sharing session for? This session is for anyone who wants to learn more about Family Literacy Day and Week in Saskatchewan. Share ideas for celebrations and activities in their community.

Session format: This training is 45 minutes long; online on Zoom.

Training: Prenatal Caring Circle Facilitator Training

When is this training? Wednesday and Thursday, January 8 and 9, 2025 from 9:00am to 4:00pm (UTC-6) on both days

What will I learn? In this training, you will explore the connection between family literacy, fetal and child development, and prenatal well-being. You will gain knowledge and strategies to guide you in planning and facilitating this program successfully in your community. We will send you materials to review and activities to help you prepare for both days of this training.

Who is this training for? This training is for people who want to facilitate the Prenatal Caring Circle, a program for expectant families, in their community.

Training format: This training is 12 hours long (6 hours each day for two days); online on Zoom.

Certificate: You will receive a digital certificate of completion for this training.
