Who We Are

Interested in knowing more about us? We’d love to connect with you! The Saskatchewan Literacy Network connects literacy organizations, practitioners, and learners throughout the province. The Network is devoted to promoting literacy and lifelong learning and plays a vital role in encouraging cooperation, building programs and training, sharing resources, and advocating for literacy initiatives across the province and across Canada.

Our Core Values:

  • Literacy and Learning Are Rights:

Everyone has the right to learn. Everyone has the right to build their skills, in ways that matter to them – at home, at work, in learning, and in their community.

What this means in our work:
    – We create programs and resources for Level 1 and 2 literacy skills.
    – We use clear language in everything we do.
    – We speak up for better support for adult literacy across the province and beyond.

  • Literacy Is a Journey

People learn in different ways, and at different times in life. All learning goals are important, and they can be for work, school, family, or personal growth.

What this means in our work:
    – We support the goals that learners choose for themselves.
    – We build programs that are flexible and open to everyone.
    – We keep learning, too: as staff and as an organization.

  • Equity and Inclusion Are Our Foundation

We centre people who have been left out or pushed aside. We believe everyone deserves to feel welcome, safe, and valued in learning spaces.

What this means in our work:

    – We follow ethical practices that are led by communities, including learners and Elders.
    – We design programs and materials that reflect many life experiences (for example: Two-Spirit and LGBTQ+ families, Indigenous ways of knowing, neurodiverse learners, people with disabilities, and home and heritage languages).
    – We use inclusive language and build strong, respectful relationships.

  • Removing Barriers Is Everyone’s Job

Literacy challenges might be personal, but they are also part of society. We all share the job of making learning easier to access.

What this means in our work:
    – We work for clear and fair communication in schools, workplaces, and systems.
    – We challenge the way some education is built around only one way of learning.
    – We support learning in many cultures, and home and heritage languages.

  • Learners Are Central to Our Work

Learners are our leaders – and are on our board of directors. We listen, learn from, and grow with the people we serve and work together with.

What this means in our work:
    – We ask learners for feedback when we create or change programs.
    – We check back and ask: “Did we get this right?”
    – We make changes based on what learners and communities tell us.

  • We Build Together

We believe in helping each other. When we work together, we make literacy stronger.

What this means in our work:
    – We help each other, even when it’s not in our job description.
    – We treat each other with care and respect, both inside and outside the organization.
    – We work closely with others on shared projects and ideas.
