Learn about Miriam's inspiration for her children's book Fox and Bear

Miriam lives near La Ronge in northern Saskatchewan. If you have questions you’d like to ask Miriam, email us at [email protected] and we might answer it live!

This image is of Miriam Körner, Saskatchewan's Family Literacy Day Livestream author of "Fox and Bear". She is paddling a motorboat with several of her sled dogs across a beautiful lake with forest on the shoreline.

Miriam Körner is a writer, illustrator, photographer, and environmental activist who lives in northern Saskatchewan with her husband and sled dogs.

Her book Fox and Bear tells a story about how humans hurt the land when they take too many trees, but it also shows that we can change the way we treat nature and fix our relationship with the land. Miriam was inspired to write this story because she saw forests near her home being cut down. She made the pictures for the book from used recycled materials, like cardboard and paper, instead of new ones, so she wouldn’t hurt the forests she was trying to protect.

Miriam also teaches kids how to make art using what they already have at home, and she loves seeing their creativity! Miriam hopes her book helps kids of all ages think about how important it is to take care of the earth and to be creative with what they already have, just like she did with her art!
