Starting in February, join our winter training and workshops to learn more about family literacy, early literacy programs, and clear language! Each of these learning opportunities is free for you, thanks to support from the Government of Saskatchewan.

  • interactive. You will learn with others, network with people across the province, and share your ideas. Everyone is welcome.
  • online. Join from your home or office. If you want help learning how you can connect to the training, contact us.
  • free for you! You can register for as many as you like – one, two, or all of them – all for free (in Saskatchewan – contact us if you’re not from our province)!

Introduction to Family Literacy - February 6

When is this training? Monday, February 6, 2023 from 9:30am to 4:30pm

What will I learn? In this training, you will learn about the core concepts and guiding principles of family literacy. You will gain knowledge and strategies to guide you in facilitating successful family literacy programs. We will send you materials to review and activities to help you prepare for the training.

Is this training for me? This training is for people who run, or want to run, family literacy programs, and for people who work or volunteer with families and want to learn how family literacy supports their work.

This training is 6 hours long; online on Zoom. We will send you a digital certificate for completing this training.

Please note: this foundational family literacy training gives you the knowledge to run our other free family literacy programs, like Prenatal Caring Circle; Rhymes, Songs, and Storytelling; and Come Read with Me.

Learn About: StoryWalks® - February 8

When is this information session? Wednesday, February 8, 2023 from noon to 12:45pm

What will I learn? In this session, you will learn how to plan and host a StoryWalk® in your community. You will explore different ways to display a StoryWalk® and ideas to engage families. You’ll also learn from the experiences of other community groups through their examples of StoryWalks®.

Is this information session for me? This information session is for anyone who wants to learn more about StoryWalks® and how to offer one in their community. If you are new to StoryWalks® or if you have offered many, you are welcome!

This session is 45 minutes long; online on Zoom.

Come Read with Me Facilitator Training - February 15 and 16

When is this training? Wednesday, February 15 and Thursday, February 16, 2023 from 9:30am to 4:30pm both days 

What will I learn? In this training, you will learn about the adaptable Come Read with Me family-based program. You will practice using children’s books as a way to share topics about childhood development and family learning. You will plan and lead program practice sessions as part of this training.

Is this training for me? This training is for anyone who works or volunteers with families with young children (around 4 to 6 years old), and who wants to run a Come Read with Me program in their community.

This training is 12 hours long; online on Zoom. We will send you a digital certificate for completing this training.

You need to complete the Introduction to Family Literacy training before taking our training for the Prenatal Caring Circle; Rhymes, Songs, and Storytelling; and Come Read with Me. When is this information session? Wednesday, February 22, 2023 from noon to 12:45pm

What will I learn? In this session, you will learn what Storysacks are and how you can plan and deliver a Storysacks program or event in your community. You will explore different ways to create Storysacks and ideas to engage families. You’ll also learn from other community groups and their experiences with Storysacks.

Is this information session for me? This information session is for anyone who wants to learn more about Storysacks and how to offer one in their community.

Prenatal Caring Circle Facilitator Training - March 1 and 2

When is this training? Wednesday, March 1 and Thursday, March 2, 2022 from 9:30am to 4:30pm both days 

What will I learn? In this training, you will explore the connection between family literacy, fetal and child development, and prenatal wellbeing. You will gain knowledge and strategies to guide you in planning and facilitating this program successfully in your community. We will send you materials to review and activities to help you prepare for both days of this training.

Is this training for me? This training is for people who want to facilitate the Prenatal Caring Circle, a program for expectant families, in their community.

This training is 12 hours long; online on Zoom. We will send you a digital certificate for completing this training.

Introduction to Clear Language and Design - March 3

When is this workshop? Friday, March 3, 2023 from 3:00 to 5:00pm

What will I learn? In this workshop, you will learn more about clear language principles, including how and why to use clear language and design. We’ll explore writing guidelines, basic design principles, and you’ll even have a chance to practice!

Is this workshop for me? This workshop is for anyone who wants to write more clearly or who wants to design posters and forms (and more!) that are more accessible.

This workshop is 2 hours long; online on Zoom. We will send you a digital certificate for completing this workshop.
